What a husky ride in Levi costs

A husky ride near Levi costs from ~$117 for a short spin with a musher at the front to ~$409 for a three-hour safari you drive yourself. The other three tours sit between those two. Below, the five tours side by side, then what the price covers and what it leaves out.

The table shows each tour's regular "from" price per adult on GetYourGuide. The booking page sometimes shows a lower figure for a given date, so treat these numbers as the upper end of what you pay.

The distance column tells you more than the hours do. The three-hour tours include transfers and farm time, so the clock says little about how long you actually spend behind the dogs.

Why longer rides cost less per kilometer

Much of a husky tour's cost is fixed. The guides need paying and the dogs need harnessing whether you ride 2 km or 15 km, so a longer trail spreads those costs more thinly.

Keo's 2 km ride at ~$117 works out at close to double the price per kilometer of its 5 km ride at ~$167. The 15 km safari at ~$409 costs the most in total but the least for each kilometer on the snow.

Sharing changes the sum on the two longer self-drive tours. There two people share a sled and swap drivers, so you pay a full adult price but drive only part of the distance yourself.

Counted that way, the 7 km tour gives each driver about 3.5 km on the runners, less than Keo's 5 km. The 15 km safari still gives each of you around 7–9 km, the most driving of any tour here.

The cheapest seat, and what it lacks

Keo Wilderness's 2 km ride from ~$117 is the lowest price of the five. A professional musher steers the team and you ride in the sled over frozen lakes and snowy forest. It takes about an hour in all, including the 10-minute transfer from Burger King Levi.

You do not drive at all, and the scores are the lowest here, 4.5 from 20+ reviews on GetYourGuide and 4.1 from 10 on Viator. Viator's version of the listing adds puppies and a reindeer spot, so the extras may match the longer ride.

It suits riders who want a taste or would rather not steer, and our guide to driving versus riding along covers who fits that. Its weight limit is a little higher, 100 kg (220 lb) against 95 kg (209 lb) on the 5 km ride.

Our pick sits in the middle

Keo Wilderness's 5 km ride at ~$167 is the tour we would book first. After a safety briefing you drive your own sled across a frozen lake and through pine forest, then play with 4-month-old husky puppies near a spot with reindeer for photos.

It holds 4.8 from 590+ reviews on GetYourGuide, the most reviewed of the five, and 4.7 from 10+ on Viator. Viator's copy of the listing also mentions a warm shelter with hot drinks and cookies.

The two catches are the limits and the meeting point. Keo takes nobody under 4 or over 70, and you make your own way to Burger King Levi at Levintie 1590, arriving 10 minutes early for the 15-minute drive to the husky base.

Where the dearer tours put the money

Arctic Circle Snowmobile Park's 7 km self-drive at ~$221 adds pickup and an introduction to dog sledding at its husky farm in the Levi area. There is a photo stop on the trail and warm drinks after the ride.

It scores 4.7 from 500+ reviews on GetYourGuide. Groups can reach 20, so expect more sleds on the trail than on Keo's tours, and your partner drives part of the 7 km.

Polar Lights Tours' 15 km safari at ~$409 is the longest ride and the dearest by a wide margin. It runs from a family-owned farm that keeps horses and reindeer as well as huskies, with the meeting point at Hissitie 11 in Sirkka.

Only 20+ reviews sit behind its 4.8 on GetYourGuide, which is thin evidence for the biggest bill here. Our guide to ride lengths weighs whether the extra kilometers suit you.

Easy Travel's reindeer and husky safari at ~$278 splits its three hours between two animals. Hotel pickup in Levi comes first, then a reindeer sledge ride and hot berry juice in a kota before the husky leg, whose length the listing does not give.

That makes it a different purchase from the other four, closer to a sampler of Lapland animals than a dog ride. Our reindeer combo guide goes through it in detail.

What the price covers, and what may cost extra

Each price buys a place in a sled behind a team of huskies with guides along, and the self-drive tours start with a safety briefing. Hot drinks are named on the 7 km tour and Easy Travel's safari, and on Viator's copy of Keo's 5 km ride.

  • Winter clothing hire, if the listing does not mention clothing; Keo asks you to bring warm clothes and warm shoes, so check the listing
  • A taxi to Burger King Levi for the two Keo tours, if you stay out of walking distance
  • Child tickets, which the listings price separately from the adult fares shown here

If you need layers, our guide to what to wear on a husky sled covers what keeps a passenger warm. Levi has shops that rent winter clothing, which costs less than buying a full kit for one ride.

Booking and cancelling

Most listings on GetYourGuide cancel free up to 24 hours before the start, which helps in a place where a cold snap or thin snow can change plans. Check the terms on the tour you pick before you pay.

Levi is at its busiest and dearest over Christmas and New Year, and those weeks fill early. Our month-by-month guide points to the quieter stretches.

If the dogs come first and the budget second, the 5 km ride is where we would start. The page on how the sled dogs live explains what you see at the base.

Before you pay

Money questions before you book

What is the cheapest husky ride in Levi?

Keo Wilderness's 2 km ride from ~$117, about an hour in all, with a musher driving while you sit in the sled. You do not steer, so for a self-drive tour the lowest price is Keo's 5 km ride from ~$167.

Do two people on one sled each pay full price?

Yes, the prices are per adult. On the 7 km and 15 km tours two people share a sled and swap drivers, so each of you pays the full price and drives part of the trail.

Is winter clothing included in the price?

Not on every tour, as far as the listings show. Keo asks guests to bring warm clothing and warm shoes. For the other tours check the listing. If you need gear, Levi has shops that rent winter clothing.

Can I cancel a husky tour for free?

Usually yes, for up to 24 hours before the start on most GetYourGuide listings. Check the terms on the tour you choose before paying.

Is the 15 km safari good value?

Per kilometer it is the cheapest ride here, and each driver gets roughly 7 to 9 km on the runners. It is still the most expensive tour by far, and only 20+ reviews back its 4.8 on GetYourGuide.
